This is the start of a new parable study.

* Notice those who were interested in hearing Christ. Publican and sinners. Not those whom you would expect to have an interest!

* Notice those ready to criticise the Saviour. The Pharisees and scribes. They 'murmured' or complained in a muttering fashion amongst themselves. The Lord hears our complaints.

The criticism of His 'looking out for sinners' (the meaning of 'receiveth') prompts this parable. These lovely words, so cherished by Christians, were addressed to very wicked men.
