Since the beginning of the new school year in September 2015, Rev Foster has been asked to speak at two morning assembly meetings each week. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." Fifth Picture of Christ Genesis 22:1-14 Approximately 500 years have passed since the flood. God has called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees, Gen 12:1. Ur of the Chaldees was in the land of Babylon or modern day Iraq. He came to that land which today is called Israel. This is the land God promised to Abraham and his descendants. There Isaac, the promised son, was born. Notice first, the place where the sacrifice was to take place. The "land of Moriah", verse 2. The word means 'chosen by Jehovah". We are told exactly where that was. "Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah," 2 Chronicles 3:1. Mount Moriah refers to a range of hills, the Temple Mount being on the east and Calvary on the west. Both these locations may rightly be termed 'Moriah'. We see the calm submissiveness of Christ. "And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? . . . . . And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood," Genesis 22:7, 9. When it first became known to Isaac that he was the sacrifice we do not know for certain. But, the Lord Jesus knew He was the sacrifce from all eternity. He was the "Lamb slain from the foundation of the world," Revelation 13:8.
