The joy of our names written down in heaven "Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven," Luke 10:20. (Preached in Bangor Free Presbyterian Church - first preached in Kilskeery FPC, 30th May, 1999.) To have power over evil spirits is to possess great power indeed. Spirits are greater beings than men. They put forth their powers to deceive and destroy the souls of men by turning them against God. That they are superior to men is seen in the dominance over them they are permitted of God to exercise at times. The incident in Acts 19:14-17 demonstrates that power that they possess. It was an honour to be given such power and the disciples were right to be thankful and happy. In all bestowal of honour there is the danger of pride. Did this not account for Satan's fall, verse 18. But there is a far greater privilege. It is that of being converted and pardoned.
