Evil preserver of evil peaceThe soul a palaceRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMLuke 11:21-22 · Sun Oct 7, 2007
"When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils," Luke 11:21-22. Conflict between the Saviour and Satan is ceaseless and ongoing. It is a conflict that lies at the heart of His coming into this world. "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil," 1 John 3:8. It will likewise usher in His return, Rev 19:19-20:3. That this was His intention was clear from the very beginning of His ministry. Matthew 4:23-24. Our text is part of an answer to the allegation made against the Saviour that he cast out devils by the power of the devil. His answer was simple. "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand?" Luke 11:17-18. In our text, the Saviour gives us the likeness of the human soul and something of the work of redemption that He carries out.
