As a new school year has begun, Rev Foster has been asked to speak at two morning assembly meetings. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." It is to the beginning of the Bible that we must turn for the first picture of the Saviour. "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel," Genesis 3:1 In His death the Lord Jesus was dealing with the great enemy of our souls, SIN. 1. It is sin that damns the soul not the devil. The devil prompts men to sin and it is sin that brings men under condemnation. The devil's power was broken but that did not atone for our sins. "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil," Hebrews 2:14. Romans 6:23. James 1:15. 2. At the cross the Saviour was dying to pay the price of our sins. Christ is the SUBSTITUTE dying in the place of His people. "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God," 1 Peter 3:18. Isaiah 53:5-6, 10 3. Behold the great wisdom and power of God in that while the devil stirred up men to crucify Christ, unknown to them, at the cross the Lord Jesus was dying as a sacrifice for our sins of His elect people. Our Saviour's death on Calvary was ordained of God before the foundations of the earth. "And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world," Revelation 13:8.
