The 11th picture of Christ Gideon and his likeness to Christ. Read Judges 6:30-40. We can find glimpses of the person, work, purpose and victory our Saviour in the lives of many of those believers we encounter in the Bible. Gideon is just one such person. We are going to consider the climax of Gideon's life - his battle with the Midianites. Gideon's actions in destroying the altar to Baal stirred up more than his neighbours, verse 33. You can see the wonderful wisdom of God. He had set the time of Gideon's action - Harvest time - the time enemy customarily attacked, verses 3-5. God's time had come and God's man was ready! "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons," Galatians 4:4-5. That which began in a small way ended most gloriously. The Midianites utterly defeated and that by 300 men, 7:7. How small was the beginnings of the gospel kingdom! Yet what a conclusion there will be. "Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him . . . . . His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed," Psalm 72:11, 17.
