As a new school year has begun, Rev Foster has been asked to speak at two morning assembly meetings. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." The Third Picture of Christ Abel's Lamb "And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering," Genesis 4:4. Here are two brothers, the first born on this earth, but how different they were. Cain had disregarded the teaching of God. The Lord had taught Adam and Eve the necessity of sacrifice when approaching Him and they would have taught their sons. But Cain rejected that teaching and went his own way. He brought the fruit of the ground that was under God's curse. Abel, on the other hand, offered a sacrifice pleasing to God. He brought a lamb which speaks of his faith in God's promise of a Redeemer - the Lamb of God. "And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering," Genesis 4:4-5. We are told in the New Testament that "By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh," Hebrews 11:4. Abel was assured that he was accepted by God because the fire of God fell upon the lamb he offered.
