PREPARING OUR HEARTS FOR WORSHIP (Preparation Sermon for the Communion service on Sabbath afternoon coming) Psalm 103:1-5 David addresses himself and seeks to exhort himself to thanksgiving. Bless carries the meaning of 'kneeling" and surely suggests singing. I. WE HAVE REASON TO BLESS THE LORD. "All His benefits." 1. The Lord only acts for our benefit. Jeremiah 29:11 + Ps 32:11, Rom 8:28. 2. His benefits are many. The death of Christ has purchased God's favour. It takes an effort of our whole being to recall them to any degree! 3. It is clear they can be easily forgotten. Ps 106:7, 21; Deut 8:10-14. II. THE BENEFITS WE SHOULD REMEMBER Verse 3-5. 1. Forgiveness. The chief of our ongoing benefits. 2. Healing. Spiritual and physical healing. 1 Cor 15:42-44, Rev 21:4. 3. Redeemed from the pit. Ps 40:2 4. Crowned. Kindness and mercy. Ps 23:6. 5. Satisfaction. A constantly renewing and satisfying. What the world can never know. Satisfaction - for only good things satisfy. III. THE REMEMBERING OF THESE THINGS WILL FILL US WITH PRAISE Verse 8-14, 17-18.
