The 11th picture of Christ Gideon and his likeness to Christ. We can find glimpses of the person, work, purpose and victory our Saviour in the lives of many of those believers we encounter in the Bible. Gideon is just one such person. We are going to consider the climax of Gideon's life - his battle with the Midianites. Read Judges 7:16-23. The victory was a wonderful foreshadowing of the triumph of Christ over His enemies - Part 1. "And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan," Judges 7:25. In Psalm 83:11 there is an end-time reference to events in Israel. "Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna: who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession." So hundreds of years later, the psalmist looks back and asks that what happened in the days of Gideon will happen again. 1. The prophet Isaiah, when speaking of Christ's victory over Antichrist uses this victory as a picture of that event. Isaiah 10:24-34. There will be a returning to this topic in our next study.
