Flourishing for the Fire "When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever," Psa 92:7. (Preached in Kilskeery FPC evening service, Oct 11th, 2015, by Rev Ivan Foster) There is a picture presented to us in 2 Kings 6 which is illustrative of the panic which often grips the hearts of God's people. The king of Syria, on being told that Elisha the prophet is the one who is keeping the king of Israel informed of every attempt he makes to strike a blow against Israel, sends a great host to surround the city of Dothan where Elisha is. In the morning Elisha's servant looks out and sees the mighty host and exclaims, "Alas, my master! how shall we do?" 2 Kings 6:15. In response to this panic-stricken cry, Elisha calmly replies, "Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them," 2 Kings 6:16. We are warned that we will see this world sinking down into wickedness. So said the Saviour and all the prophets., Luke 17:28-30. This was emphasised by the apostles. 2 Timothy 3:1, 2 Peter 3:1-4. Such are the days we see breaking forth around us! We should not despair as did Elisha's servant but rather take the proper view that Elisha took. "Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them." We need our eyes to be opened to the divine reality about us rather than being totally focused on only a fraction of what is happening in this world - namely the actions and words of the wicked. Heaven's power and glory is nearer than we often are aware of!
